True patriotism lies in standing with one’s country and its interests, regardless of any other affiliation. It is a patriotism that is not seduced by empty slogans or by loyalties that entangle one’s nation in reckless wars with no return. It is a patriotism that stands tall and unwavering in support of justice wherever it is found. This was underscored by the words of the Iraqi Shia leader Muqtada al-Sadr yesterday regarding Iran and its brazen militias, which had grown accustomed to attacking Saudi Arabia and other Gulf and Arab states, only to raise their bark when the Kingdom defended itself.
