Boutayeb: Kuwait is rich with exceptional creative talents
Artist Ibrahim Butayban announced the launch of preparations for a new academic project, directed and written by Fawaz Al-Wasmi, in a move aimed at delivering a youthful artistic experience with a contemporary vision and providing ample space for emerging talents.
The project features a select group of young stars, led by actor Mohammed Dashti and Ali Abdulaziz, alongside a number of other young faces, in a combination expected to offer a distinctive experience on both artistic and academic levels.
On this occasion, Butayban said, “I am delighted to collaborate with author Al-Wasmi, given his clear artistic vision and ambition, which contribute to delivering a high-quality experience. From the initial stages of preparation, we will strive to build a work grounded in artistic and academic foundations, providing young artists with a genuine space to express their potential, thereby achieving a balance between content quality and artistic message.”
Butayban has contributed approximately 78 artistic and academic works, ranging from acting and directing to supervising specialized workshops for actor training, in addition to his involvement in puppet theater and short films. Commenting on his craft, he said, “As an actor, I find my true passion in embodying characters that present artistic challenges, particularly complex roles with multiple psychological and human dimensions. This type of role requires research, reading, and analysis before stepping in front of the camera, because character building begins with understanding its details, which grants the actor a broader space for creativity and delivering an honest and convincing performance.”
He added, “I feel at home anywhere that promotes refined and enriching art for human society. We can discern this from the quality and diversity of the works, especially as many young stars are now following in the footsteps of our experiences as academics with considerable expertise spanning theater, television, and cinema.”
Regarding the awards he has received, Butayban said, “I am proud to have received the Acting Award at the end of 2025 at the Back Stage Group Theater Festival, within a category that brought together young talents and experienced theater practitioners. I consider this honor a responsibility rather than merely an achievement.”
“For me, this award affirms the importance of continuous development and the constant search for new tools in building and embodying characters, thereby achieving an honest and distinct performance that resonates with the audience. I will continue striving to present works that carry artistic value, avoid repetition, and bet on innovation and excellence.”
When asked about his aspirations, Butayban said, “I aspire to contribute to reviving academic theater based on solid scientific and artistic foundations, and to create an environment that nurtures, refines, and presents young talents in the manner they deserve.”
“Despite the challenges facing this path, whether in terms of resources or support, I remain convinced that Kuwait is rich with talents possessing exceptional creative abilities, deserving of real opportunities to prove themselves,” he added. “I believe that investing in creative individuals is the most important investment, and that supporting young artists and enabling them to express their potential will positively impact the future of the theater and artistic movement.”
“Therefore, God willing, I will continue working with everyone who believes in this mission, to build a new generation capable of presenting refined art that reflects our society’s identity, elevates the audience’s taste, and helps consolidate the status of Kuwaiti theater.”
