The Leader: The brazen actions of the militias and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps are dragging us into a futile war

In a strongly worded statement, leader of the Shia Tawakkul Party, Muqtada al-Sadr, yesterday condemned “the brazen actions of militias dragging Iraq into a futile war,” warning them and the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps not to provide a “pretext” for Gulf Arab states to target Iraq.

Al-Sadr wrote on the X platform: “We have had enough of war. We must be wary of terrorist cells inside and outside the country. This is a call for peace and tranquility from me to all neighboring countries, so that we may live free from military bases and normalization.”

Al-Sadr directed his address to Iran and the Revolutionary Guard, stating: “Iraq is the land of holy shrines, and targeting it is rejected by all countries and entities, as long as it is not used as a launching pad for your airstrikes.”

The Shia leader called on the Iraqi government to restore security, assert sovereignty, and work to protect the Iraqi people and their holy sites, warning against being drawn into “sectarian superstitions.” At the same time, he emphasized that Iraq “needs peace after the wars that have depleted its resources.”
