Al-Sha'ani appointed coach of the Tunisia national team

This confirms what had been circulating in recent days in local media regarding the appointment of the 45-year-old to the position, succeeding Frenchman Hervé Renard, who managed the “Eagles of Carthage” in two matches during the 2026 World Cup following the dismissal of French coach Sabri Lamouchi after the first match.

The task now lies with Chaabani, who led Esperance Sportive de Tunis to win the CAF Champions League titles in 2018 and 2019, in addition to three domestic league titles and two domestic Super Cup titles, before continuing his managerial career in Egypt with Misr El-Makasa and Ceramica Cleopatra.

Chaabani arrived in Morocco at the beginning of 2024 to oversee Wydad Athletic Club, which announced mid-month that the Tunisian Football Federation had contacted its coach to take charge of the “Eagles of Carthage.”

Although Chaabani’s contract runs until June 30, 2027, Wydad Athletic Club expressed “understanding,” citing “the special importance attached to the role of managing the national team.”

The club also praised the “high professionalism” displayed by Chaabani, considering that he contributed to “writing an important chapter in the history of Wydad Athletic Club,” which won the domestic league title and the CAF Confederation Cup in 2025 under his guidance.
