Sherif Munir Remembers Hany Shenouda on 'Nostalgia Band'

Artist Sherif Munir returned to the stage through the “Nostalgia Band” concert, held at the open-air theater of the Egyptian Opera House as part of the Summer Festival of Music and Song, drawing a full audience.

The band opened the concert by honoring the memory of the late composer Hany Shenouda, performing his hit song “Bahlam Ma’ak” (I Dream With You), one of his most famous works, to enthusiastic applause from the audience.

Sherif Munir participated in the concert as a drummer within the band, marking a musical experience that brought him back to direct engagement with the public. His daughter Asma hosted the event and presented its segments.

In her opening remarks, Asma stated that the “Nostalgia” project aims to revive the songs and music that shaped the sensibilities of past generations, presenting them through a contemporary musical vision that preserves their original spirit.

During the concert, “Nostalgia Band” evoked the atmosphere of the golden age of Arabic music, featuring a program that included some of the most famous film soundtracks and both Arabic and Western songs. These included music and songs from the films “A Groom from a Security Agency” and “Sahar Al-Layali,” alongside hits such as “Bahlam Ma’ak,” “Ya Salam ‘ala Hobbi wa Hobbak,” “Hibbitukas bi-Sayf,” “Sagheera ‘ala al-Hubb,” “Tamli fi Qalbi,” “Ya Nasini,” and “Mambo.” These works, which form part of the audience’s collective memory, were performed by the band with modern arrangements that preserved their original essence.

Sherif Munir emphasized that the band was founded to reinterpret songs he originally performed in the 1980s and 1990s. He described the sold-out concert at the Egyptian Opera House’s open-air theater as a culmination of their previous performances, which had enjoyed strong public interest.
