Al-Shatti to Al-Jarida: Kuwaiti refereeing has regained its health

The head of the Referees Committee at the Kuwait Football Association, Waleed Al-Shatti, confirmed the success of the training camp held in Azerbaijan from the 10th to the 23rd of this month. He noted that the camp achieved its desired objectives in adequately preparing referees for the remaining matches of the Zain League First Division, as well as for the upcoming 2026-2027 sports season.

Al-Shatti told Al-Jarida that Kuwait Football Association Chairman Sheikh Ahmed Al-Yousef and board members were keen on sending referees to this camp despite the difficulties encountered in booking and travel due to the circumstances surrounding the region. He added that training sessions began prior to departure to restore physical fitness levels and achieve the required readiness.

The camp featured participation from international referees, First Division referees, and newcomers, as well as futsal referees across all divisions, with the aim of preparing them for upcoming competitions. International lecturer Saad Kamel delivered lectures, informing referees of the changes to the Laws of the Game applied in the 2026-2027 World Cup, in collaboration with the Azerbaijan Football Association and FIFA.

Al-Shatti indicated that the Referees Department aims for international and First Division referees to officiate matches with the expected efficiency in the next season. He noted that physical training was led by former international referee Mohammed Farhan Al-Anzi, and that fitness tests were conducted successfully.

He praised the high standards demonstrated by Kuwaiti referees in international competitions, highlighting their remarkable performance, including that of Ahmed Al-Ali, Abdullah Al-Jamali, and Saud Al-Samhan.
