Bubiyan urges caution against digital fraud while traveling

Continuing its support for the “Let’s Be Aware” campaign launched by the Central Bank of Kuwait in collaboration with the Kuwait Banks Association, Boubyan Bank is intensifying its efforts to raise banking awareness amid the surge in travel during the summer season, highlighting key fraud tactics that may target travelers as reliance on digital channels and services during travel continues to grow.

In a press statement, the bank explained that the advancement of digital services, which offer greater convenience while on the move, has been accompanied by a parallel evolution in electronic fraud methods, with scammers increasingly exploiting the travel season to carry out more sophisticated and convincing fraudulent attempts.

It pointed out that among the most prominent of these tactics is the impersonation of airlines, hotels, or online booking platforms, designed to lure users into sharing their personal or banking details or making payments through untrusted links.

The bank emphasized the importance of using secure digital channels when conducting banking transactions while traveling, avoiding the use of public Wi-Fi networks for financial operations or logging into bank accounts, and closely monitoring real-time notifications for bank accounts and cards to detect any unusual activity.

It also called for diversifying payment methods while traveling and not relying on a single bank card, ensuring the security of ATMs and payment terminals before use, and refraining from sharing passwords or one-time passwords (OTP) with any party, regardless of their claimed identity or justification.
