Kuwaiti medical team achieves medical breakthrough using therapeutic endoscopy

The Ministry of Health announced today that a medical team at Al-Adan Hospital successfully treated a Kuwaiti woman in her forties for a blockage of the bile ducts, caused by a rare congenital anatomical variation.

In a statement, the ministry said the team, led by Dr. Youssef Al-Tawalla, succeeded in performing an advanced therapeutic intervention using endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP).

It added that the endoscopy revealed that the bile duct opening was located inside the stomach instead of its normal position in the duodenum, a very rare congenital anatomical anomaly. The therapeutic intervention was carried out using advanced therapeutic endoscopy and interventional radiology, without the need for surgical intervention.

It is worth noting that 120 precise endoscopies for the liver and bile ducts have been performed at the hospital since the beginning of the year.
