Australian Prime Minister: We will raise our concerns regarding tariffs with Trump

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said on Sunday that he would seek to raise the issue of tariffs with U.S. President Donald Trump, following Washington’s imposition of new tariffs two days ago on trading partners, including Australia.

On Friday, the United States imposed new tariffs on goods from 60 trading partners, accusing those countries of failing to curb trade in products made with forced labor, coinciding with the expiration of temporary global tariffs set at 10 percent.

The Albanese-led government described these tariffs as unjustified and stated that it is seeking their repeal.

When asked on Sunday whether he would seek to discuss the matter with Trump, Albanese replied, “Certainly.”

He added in remarks broadcast on television, “We will raise this issue at all levels within the framework of Australia–United States relations, and we have already done so.”
