US Embassy in Kuwait Urges Its Citizens to Exercise Caution Amid Ongoing Tensions

Less than two weeks after issuing a similar security warning on the 17th, the U.S. Embassy in Kuwait has renewed its call for its citizens to exercise caution and vigilance amid ongoing security tensions in the region and the potential for unexpected escalation.

In a security alert published yesterday evening, the embassy stated that Americans in the Middle East should be prepared for the possibility of flight cancellations or delays, as well as periodic airspace closures that may disrupt travel. It noted that some airlines have postponed the resumption of their previous flight schedules, while others have canceled certain routes.

The embassy urged travelers to monitor their flight status directly with airlines or through the Kuwait International Airport website. It also advised Americans outside the Middle East to reconsider travel to or through the region during the current period.

The alert pointed out that U.S. diplomatic facilities, including those outside the Middle East, have previously been targeted, warning that Iran and its supporting groups may target other U.S. interests abroad or sites linked to the United States and American citizens, including U.S. companies and institutions.

It added that passport renewal and issuance services remain available by scheduling an appointment in advance or through the Consular Citizens Emergency Center for eligible individuals. Non-emergency consular services, such as visa issuance and notarial services, are currently unavailable until further notice.

The embassy urged Americans to follow local authorities’ instructions, avoid any debris resulting from potential attacks, monitor media for official guidance, maintain contact with family and friends, ensure travel documents are ready, and enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive security alerts from the U.S. Department of State, as well as follow the ministry’s security updates channel on WhatsApp.
