Artificial Intelligence in Mathematics 10/10

Artificial intelligence achieved a perfect score for the first time in a leading global mathematics competition, an accomplishment that had been limited for years to a small number of gifted young individuals.

Huawei and Xiaohongshu, two Chinese technology companies, announced in a statement reported by the French Press Agency (AFP) yesterday that their respective AI models both achieved a perfect score (100%) on questions from the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), which human competitors took this month.

Huawei and Xiaohongshu were the first AI companies to announce their results, and other companies from around the world are expected to follow suit in the coming days.

In 2025, models from companies including Google and OpenAI achieved gold-medal-level results for the first time, but they were unable to match the performance of five human competitors who earned perfect scores.

This year, 666 contestants from various countries participated in the International Mathematical Olympiad, held in Shanghai.

Participants in the International Mathematical Olympiad, which is hosted in different locations each year, must be no older than 20 years of age.
