Al-Zaidi: We will not allow Iran to be threatened from Iraqi territory

Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi affirmed on Thursday that Iraq’s and Iran’s security are shared, and that no threat to Iran emanating from Iraqi territory will be permitted.

Speaking to the media following a round of talks with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in Tehran, Al-Zaidi said, according to an Iraqi government statement, that “his visit to the Islamic Republic reflects the depth and renewal of bilateral relations, and represents a bridge of goodwill between the two peoples, as well as the partnership uniting the two countries in religion, civilization, geography, and culture.”

He noted that the visit aims to discuss issues concerning both countries and the region, and to underscore the necessity of joint investments across various sectors, following Iran’s supportive stance and its backing of Iraq during the war against the Daesh terrorist organization.

For his part, President Pezeshkian emphasized the deep commonalities between the Iranian and Iraqi peoples, stating that security stability is of paramount importance and positively impacts the bilateral developmental landscape.
