Winds and stakes: 4 warnings and this is the fifth
The first warning came when everyone, with very few exceptions, supported Khomeini’s revolution, pinned their hopes on it, and sent delegations to it. The Salafi current, however, warned against it, against the export of its revolution, and against the doctrine of the Guardianship of the Jurist. Indeed, shortly thereafter, the export of the revolution began, and the region suffered greatly from its consequences.
The second warning occurred during the October 1994 events, when Saddam Hussein mobilized his forces along the Kuwaiti border. Members of the Council held a consultative meeting at the President’s office, attended by Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad, may God have mercy on him. He spoke with a warning in that meeting, citing some findings from our fact-finding committee, and emphasized that preparedness was essential because the Americans were repeating their stance: “We will defend you, not fight for you.” Sheikh Sabah affirmed that Kuwait would not be bitten by the same hole twice, and that preparations were underway at full speed. All currents within the Council joined in this warning.
The third warning arose when most political currents in the National Assembly visited Hassan Nasrallah, with some going so far as to lavish praise and accolades upon him during one of the Assembly’s sessions. The Salafi current, however, disagreed; they did not meet with Nasrallah nor endorse him or his actions. A few years later, he entered Syria with his forces, revealing the true nature of his aggression against both the Syrian and Kuwaiti peoples.
The fourth warning is the current one: the possibility that the Iranian enemy might occupy parts of any Gulf state to use them as bargaining chips with the United States. Despite being defeated and having lost its air and naval forces, he is frustrated and may commit further acts of folly. His intentions cannot be trusted, so caution and preparedness are necessary, coordinated with Gulf states and allied friendly nations.
These events, along with the mistakes some fell into, demonstrate that it is impermissible to hastily endorse revolutionary movements or various political parties, regardless of their slogans, without thoroughly examining their true principles, interests, sincerity, alliances, and the validity of their actions in light of the Quran and the Sunnah. In the past, the masses also applauded the Free Officers Movement and chased after Nasserism, only to suffer the defeat of 1967, which led to divisions among them into communist, nationalist, Islamic, and other currents.
Today, we warn again against those who exploit current events and Iranian aggression to call for normalization with the Zionists, claiming that Israel has not fired missiles at us. Such individuals should refer to what the Quran and Sunnah state about the enmity and danger posed by the Jews. They should also consider the statements of Zionist leaders and their desire to establish Greater Israel to dominate the region economically and militarily, including occupying parts of Arab states, such as Kuwait, after having swallowed Palestine, killed its people, and expelled them. They now occupy parts of several Arab states and Jerusalem.
Indeed, Iran is the direct enemy that must be confronted immediately and decisively, together with our brothers in the Gulf and allied friendly nations, using all means that will permanently deter its aggression. At the same time, the sense of the Zionist threat must remain latent in the consciousness of Muslims, especially since it has revealed its future plans, which require vigilance and caution.
In conclusion, mistakes are possible for all humans, even for the sincere. However, we must learn from past errors and resolve not to repeat them.
