Egypt condemns attack on Kuwaiti tanker in the Strait of Hormuz

Egypt today condemned in the strongest terms the attack on the Kuwaiti tanker “Kivan” as it transited the Strait of Hormuz, which resulted in injuries to several members of its crew. Egypt characterized the attack as a serious escalation and a violation of international law and the rules governing freedom of maritime navigation, threatening the security and stability of the Gulf region and the safety of international sea lanes.

The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a statement relayed by the Associated Press (AP), expressed Egypt’s full solidarity with the sister state of Kuwait and its support for all measures taken to safeguard Kuwait’s security, sovereignty, and interests. It reiterated Egypt’s firm rejection of any aggression targeting Arab states or threatening international navigation security and the integrity of global trade routes.

Egypt also called for an immediate halt to all escalatory actions, adherence to the principles of international law and the United Nations Charter, and the prioritization of diplomatic solutions and dialogue, in order to help contain tensions and preserve regional and international security and stability.
