Belgian Onana Out for 9 Months at Aston Villa

Belgian international midfielder Amadou Onana underwent surgery on Tuesday in Lyon to repair a tear in the anterior cruciate ligament of his right knee, an injury sustained during the World Cup. He will be sidelined from his club, English side Aston Villa, for nine months, according to medical sources.

Onana suffered the anterior cruciate ligament tear 20 minutes into his country’s match against the host nation, the United States, in the World Cup round of 16, which ended 4-1.

Onana’s injury deeply affected his teammates, who rushed to console the powerful midfielder immediately after the final whistle against the Americans.
