'Spider-Man' Returns with a More Human Story

Actor Tom Holland believes his new film, “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” offers a different kind of superhero story, as its narrative centers on human vulnerability.

Holland, star of “The Odyssey,” told Reuters in New York, “The film offers a cautionary tale about living alone, the importance of community, and how sometimes the bravest thing you can do in life is to ask for help.”

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the film is set a few years after the events of “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” directed by Jon Watts.

Among those affected are Michelle “MJ” Jones-Watson, Peter’s girlfriend, played by Zendaya, who is Holland’s real-life wife, and his close friend Ned, portrayed by Jacob Batalon. Neither character remembers the time they spent with Peter.

As Spider-Man adjusts to his new reality, he finds an unexpected ally in the character of The Punisher, played by Jon Bernthal, in a crossover with the series “Daredevil” and “The Punisher.”

Despite their rocky start, the two characters eventually manage to forge a bond.

“Spider-Man: No Way Home” is scheduled for theatrical release starting July 31.
