Zain contributes $10 million to the Emergency Response Fund

The Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development announced today that Kuwait Mobile Telecommunications Company (Zain) has contributed $10 million to the Kuwait Emergency Response Fund, launched by the Fund on the 5th of this month. The initiative aims to bolster national preparedness and enhance Kuwait’s capacity to confront challenges and exceptional circumstances.

In a statement, the Fund noted that Zain’s contribution was made “in appreciation of the Kuwait Emergency Response Fund initiative and in line with the company’s commitment to its success, consistent with its national and social responsibilities.” It added that the contribution also stems from “the company’s emphasis on supporting national initiatives aimed at protecting the country and strengthening its capabilities to face challenges, and its belief that the concerted efforts of all state institutions and the private sector form a fundamental pillar for enhancing the ability to manage crises efficiently and effectively.”

The statement highlighted that Zain is a leading telecommunications and technological innovation company in the Middle East and Africa, with a long history as the region’s first mobile telecommunications operator. It plays a pivotal role in connecting millions of individuals and businesses across nine countries through advanced telecommunications solutions and digital services.

Zain currently operates in Kuwait, Bahrain, Iraq, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, South Sudan, the United Arab Emirates, and Morocco, offering a comprehensive portfolio of mobile telecommunications, data, financial technology, information and communications technology (ICT) solutions, cloud services, cybersecurity, application programming interfaces (APIs), wholesale telecommunications services, tower infrastructure sharing, and gaming services.

The Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development reiterated its call for all government institutions, public authorities, private sector companies, and national financial institutions to actively contribute to this strategic fund, describing it as a national investment that enhances Kuwait’s developmental security and comprehensive preparedness to face various conditions.

In a separate statement, Zain Group emphasized that the current phase, marked by rapid regional developments and exceptional challenges, along with their direct and indirect impacts on the sustainability of national gains, infrastructure efficiency, and the continuity of essential services, underscores the importance of unifying national efforts and strengthening partnerships between state institutions and the private sector to consolidate Kuwait’s readiness and capacity to handle various changes and exceptional circumstances.

The group noted that this initiative comes at a critical juncture characterized by national challenges and imperatives requiring the highest levels of preparedness and solidarity. As an institution closely tied to Kuwait’s developmental journey and witness to its various stages and challenges, Zain stated that contributing to this initiative represents a national duty before it is a corporate responsibility, reflecting its role as a strategic partner that places its resources and expertise at the service of the country and supports efforts to enhance national preparedness and consolidate the foundations of stability and sustainability.

Bader Nasser Al-Kharaf, Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Zain Group, said: “In light of these exceptional circumstances, strengthening the nation’s capacity to confront challenges and sustain the development trajectory is a shared national responsibility that requires the concerted efforts of all institutions and sectors, as a national goal that unites national wills under the wise leadership of His Highness the Amir, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. It necessitates continuing joint efforts, entrenching a culture of national responsibility, and fostering effective partnership.”

Al-Kharaf emphasized that “the Kuwait Emergency Response Fund initiative represents a model of national partnership and embodies the state’s vision of building an institutional framework capable of responding swiftly to exceptional circumstances, by mobilizing national resources and directing them toward priority projects and needs, thereby enhancing the state’s capacity for preparedness and recovery during crises and emergencies.”

He clarified that “national preparedness is a shared responsibility requiring the unification of capabilities, with the private sector playing a fundamental role in supporting state plans and enhancing the country’s ability to manage changes and mitigate their impacts, thereby ensuring the continuity of essential services and preserving the stability of state institutions and vital facilities.”

He added that “Zain’s support and participation in this national initiative, launched by the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, aligns with its renewed commitment to its national and social responsibilities, and reflects its conviction in the necessity of strengthening the capacity to respond to current conditions, safeguard national gains, and ensure the continuity of essential services and infrastructure.”

Al-Kharaf noted that Zain’s contribution to this initiative expresses a responsible institutional stance that embodies values of belonging and commitment to the homeland, and underscores the importance of integrating efforts to enhance national preparedness through joint work and cooperation among all segments of society.

He concluded by saying: “On this occasion, we extend our sincere gratitude and appreciation to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, Sheikh Jara Al-Jaber, for his leadership of this strategic national initiative and his vision, which reflected the highest meanings of national responsibility and proactive institutional action during this critical stage. We also express our appreciation to the Fund’s management and the team working on this national initiative, whose significance extends beyond providing the necessary resources to address exceptional circumstances, to establishing an advanced model of national partnership, mobilizing capabilities, and directing them toward the state’s strategic priorities.”
