Ministry of Foreign Affairs Summons Iranian Ambassador to Kuwait

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, represented by His Excellency Ambassador Hamad Sulaiman Al-Mushaan, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, summoned His Excellency Ambassador Mohammad Toutounji, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the State of Kuwait, today, Tuesday, July 21, 2026, to deliver a note of protest regarding Iran’s targeting of the Kuwaiti tanker “Kivan” on the evening of Monday, which resulted in injuries to several members of its crew. His Excellency the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs emphasized that this blatant aggression occurs against the backdrop of the escalating unjustified aggression launched by Iran against the State of Kuwait since February 28, 2026, including inflammatory and provocative statements issued by the Iranian side. He stated that this constitutes a flagrant violation of the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and interests of the State of Kuwait, as well as a threat to international security and freedom of navigation, and a breach of international law, the UN Charter, and Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026). He reiterated the State of Kuwait’s demand for Iran to immediately cease its unlawful attacks, stressing Kuwait’s right to take necessary measures, and holding Iran fully responsible for this aggression and its ongoing hostility toward the State of Kuwait.
