North Korea reaffirmed its support for Russia in its war against Ukraine during a meeting between the foreign ministers of the two countries in Moscow, according to official media in Pyongyang on Tuesday, amid growing speculation about a possible visit by Kim Jong Un to the Kremlin in the near future.
Analysts said Pyongyang had sent troops to the Russian Kursk region, which is experiencing fighting, and supplied Moscow with weapons systems, in exchange for financial aid, food supplies, energy resources, and military technology.
Following a meeting in Moscow between North Korean Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui and her Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, official Pyongyang media reported that the two countries reaffirmed their firm political will to enhance the long-term development of bilateral relations across various fields.
The Korean Central News Agency stated that “the North Korean side expressed its steadfast support for all of the Russian Federation’s domestic and foreign policies aimed at eliminating the root causes of the Ukrainian conflict, defending its national sovereignty and territorial integrity, and upholding international justice.”
