FIFA opens investigation into scuffles and violence during Spain's World Cup victory celebrations

FIFA opened an investigation on Monday after celebrations by the Spanish national team following their victory over Argentina in the World Cup final turned into a heated verbal altercation, following a brief on-field scuffle between players.

The Associated Press reported that television replays showed several players getting into a scuffle, including Argentine midfielder Leandro Paredes.

Paredes appeared to push Spain defender Eric Garcia by the neck, and then pushed the young player Gavi, who intervened to defend his teammate.

It added that Spain captain Rodri suffered an abdominal injury from Argentine defender Nahuel Molina as he was moving to join his teammates in celebrating the title win.

Another incident occurred between Molina and Rodri, who then got into a discussion with his former Manchester City teammate and Argentine defender Nicolas Otamendi.
