Spanish Press Praises the Achievement

“Kings of all time!” “The invincible Spain,” and “Spain enters the realm of immortality”: The Spanish press found no shortage of praise today (Monday) to celebrate the achievement of its national team in the World Cup final against Argentina.

According to the sports daily Marca, the players of “La Roja” are simply “kings of all time,” praising “the second star that will be embroidered on the Spanish jersey after a new display of team play.”

The other sports daily, AS, considered that this triumph recalls the first title won in 2010, with its headline reading “Just like the first time,” and noted that “no country has ever simultaneously crowned itself world champion in both the women’s and men’s tournaments.”

The Catalan newspaper La Vanguardia wrote: “Spain rules the world, a fact that its football had already reflected, and the World Cup has now confirmed it. The second star is already making its way to the Iberian Peninsula to settle on the chest of a magnificent team that includes a new champion.” The newspaper highlighted the match-winner Ferran Torres, considering him to be “opening the doors to immortality.”

El País observed that “Spain enters the realm of immortality with this second world title, at the expense of the defending champions, whose threat was reduced to almost nothing.” It added that Argentina “did not take a single shot before La Roja’s goal, an unusual occurrence. No national team had ever finished 90 minutes of a World Cup final without attempting a shot. Nor had any team done so until the 117th minute.”

According to El País, “the performance of Luis de la Fuente’s team dismantled the Argentine side, led by the legendary number 10 (Lionel Messi), exhausted them with its style of play, and peppered them with a series of shots, before finally finishing them off with a left-footed strike. Messi departed the World Cup thanks to an exceptional team performance.”
