Interior Ministry Arrests Two Sri Lankan Nationals for Attempting to Smuggle Drugs

The General Directorate for the Suppression of Narcotics thwarted an attempt to smuggle the A4 drug into the country, delivering another blow to drug traffickers. The operation resulted in the arrest of suspects of Sri Lankan nationality and the seizure of narcotics intended for trafficking.

Details of the case emerged from intelligence indicating an attempt to smuggle the A4 drug via postal mail through air cargo. In response, coordination was established with the General Customs Administration, whose inspection and examination efforts led to the discovery of 210 sheets of A4 drug, disguised as instructional booklets and concealed inside 10 light bulbs.

Following the completion of security procedures, the recipient of the parcel was apprehended. Upon interrogation, he admitted that he was preparing to hand it over to a second suspect. A carefully laid ambush subsequently led to the arrest of the second suspect. Both individuals were found in possession of 10 grams of methamphetamine (shabu), along with a sensitive scale.

The Ministry of Interior reaffirmed its continued commitment to launching preemptive strikes against drug smugglers and distributors, and its resolute stance against any attempts to introduce these toxins into the country. It emphasized that it remains on high alert for anyone who dares to undermine societal security.
