Iranian Interior Minister Holds Talks with Pakistani Officials in Islamabad

A source in Pakistan’s Interior Ministry said that Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni will visit Islamabad on Monday, where the country plays a mediating role between Washington and Tehran.

The source told Agence France-Presse that Momeni will hold talks with Pakistani officials, but did not clarify whether the visit was linked to Pakistani mediation efforts to end the conflict between the United States and Iran.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baqaei said at a press conference on Monday that diplomatic communications with the United States through intermediaries were still ongoing, despite US military strikes on the country.

Pakistan said last week that it “will continue to encourage all parties to end violence and resume technical discussions,” in accordance with a memorandum of understanding signed by US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in mid-June.

Doubts have been raised about the interim agreement between Washington and Tehran and the possibility of reaching a path that ensures a permanent end to the war, as hostilities resumed this month.

Momeni had previously participated in mediation talks and met with Pakistani Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, who has visited Tehran more than once.
