Passing of Ahmed Jalal Abdulqawi after a battle with illness

The artist Ahmed Jalal Abdulqawi passed away this morning after a bitter struggle with cancer.

His brother, Mohammed, announced his death on Facebook, offering heartfelt condolences in which he wrote: “To God we belong and to Him we shall return... My beloved brother, the actor and director Ahmed Jalal Abdulqawi, has passed away to the mercy of God. May God have mercy on you, my dear brother. Farewell, my younger brother, my love... You are the ones who go before, and we are those who follow.”

The news sent shockwaves through the artistic community, particularly because Ahmed Abdulqawi died at the age of 42. In recent months, he had endured severe hardships, including a period of imprisonment and multiple serious health crises, among them the cancer diagnosis announced just days earlier, which was in its final stages. He had posted on his page asking everyone to pray for him, hinting at the gravity of his condition by writing, “It’s only a matter of time.”

Ahmed Jalal Abdulqawi came from a artistic family; he was the son of the late Egyptian writer and screenwriter Mohammed Jalal Abdulqawi. He began his involvement in the arts at an early age, soon drawing attention for his talent and his ability to portray characters in a calm, understated manner, free from exaggeration.

He started his career as a child actor in the series “Hayat El-Gawhari,” then gained wider recognition in “Hadith El-Subh wa El-Masa’.” He continued working until he became widely known to audiences through “Al-Layl wa Akheruhu” alongside the veteran artist Yehia El-Fakharany. His role in “Hadrat El-Matoom Abi” with the late Nour El-Sherif marked a milestone in his artistic life. However, his career momentum slowed thereafter, and he appeared in several projects spaced out over time, including “Hassan and Morcos,” “Ibn Leil,” “Itteham,” and “Shahadat Mawlad.” His last work was “Sani’ El-Ahlam” seven years ago, after which he withdrew from the public eye for several years.
