Departure of “The Lady of the Bath” Brenda Fricker

Irish actress Brenda Fricker passed away last Thursday at the age of 81 in her birthplace of Dublin, leaving fans and admirers around the world in mourning.

Within this context, her agent, Phil Belfield, confirmed that she died peacefully in her sleep following a period of declining health.

Fricker made history in 1990 when she became the first Irish woman to win an Academy Award, taking home the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her moving portrayal of the devoted and supportive mother of the son played by Daniel Day-Lewis in the 1989 film “My Left Foot.”

In addition to her award-winning role, Fricker won the hearts of audiences worldwide for her role as the “Bird Lady” in Central Park in the 1992 blockbuster “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.”

She also distinguished herself with a successful television career in the United Kingdom, playing Nurse Megan Rouch in the BBC’s medical drama series “Casualty.”

The film’s narrative unfolds in a small house on the Irish coast, where a woman writes a letter to an unknown correspondent, reflecting on the fading of memory and art. Her home is filled with the traces of life: faded photographs and scattered artworks, some still unfinished.

Fricker was born in Dublin in February 1945 and worked as an assistant to the arts editor of the Irish Times before entering the acting profession. She began her artistic career in 1964 with the film “Of Human Bondage.”
