India launches first indigenous hydrogen-powered train to boost clean energy

India launched its first hydrogen-powered, fully indigenous train on Friday, a move aimed at expanding the use of clean energy across the country’s vast railway network.

Railway officials stated that the train can reach speeds of up to 75 kilometers per hour (47 miles per hour) and has a maximum capacity of approximately 2,600 passengers.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted on the platform X, “This is a highly significant and pivotal day in our journey toward self-reliance and sustainable development in India.”

According to officials, the pilot project includes hydrogen storage and refueling infrastructure, designed to test the efficiency and feasibility of using this technology within the Indian railway network.
