Spanish Prime Minister to Attend Final to Support His National Team Despite Criticism of Trump

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez will be present on Sunday at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey to support his national team in the 2026 World Cup final, despite his criticisms of U.S. President Donald Trump’s policies, who will be seated beside him, according to his office’s statement to Agence France-Presse on Friday.

His office said, “The Prime Minister will attend the 2026 FIFA World Cup final scheduled for Sunday in the United States. Afterward, he will travel to Algeria,” where he is undertaking a previously scheduled official visit.

On Thursday, Trump’s attendance at the final between Spain and Argentina was confirmed by White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt.
