Operator of the US President's teleprompter exploits knowledge of his speeches and earns $100,000 from betting on them

The White House dismissed Gabriel Perez, the teleprompter operator for U.S. President Donald Trump, today after accusing him of exploiting his knowledge of speech texts to bet on specific words via the Kalshi platform, where he made profits exceeding $100,000.

Kalshi had flagged suspicious activity and frozen the employee’s account, which held more than $90,000.

The platform reported the evidence it obtained regarding the incident to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), the agency responsible for regulating markets. The employee is currently in settlement talks with regulators, while federal prosecutors declined to open a criminal investigation.

Perez, who has worked with Trump since 2016, purchased prediction contracts on the betting platform. The bets included major speeches such as the State of the Union address.
