CENTCOM: Iran does not control the Strait of Hormuz; the strait remains open

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) spokesperson Timothy Hawkins stated that Iran does not control the Strait of Hormuz.

He noted that the strait remains open for navigation, with 300 vessels passing through the waterway in the past week, half of which received assistance from U.S. forces.

He added that Iran is targeting commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz, as well as civilians in neighboring countries, and that the U.S. military is using precision weapons to strike military bases used by Iran to launch missiles and drones against civilian targets in neighboring states.

He affirmed continued cooperation with regional partners to defend against Iranian aggression and to keep the Strait of Hormuz open.
