Head injuries behind the death of Nobby Stiles, 1966 World Cup champion

The British Press Association (PA Media) reported, citing a Stockport court, that former Manchester United midfielder Bobby Moore struck the ball with his head approximately 140,000 times throughout his football career, which contributed to his death six years ago at the age of 78, following a struggle with severe dementia.

Stiles, a physically robust defensive midfielder, earned 28 caps for the England national team and played 400 matches for Manchester United.

His son, John Stiles, chairs the Football Families for Justice campaign, which seeks to urge officials to provide greater support for former players.

PA Media added that Stiles was among dozens of former players and their families who filed lawsuits against the English Football Association, the Football Association of Wales, and the English Football League, alleging negligence and failure to fulfill their duty of care toward former players.

The English Football Association plans to ban all types of heading in under-11 youth competitions by 2026.
