Kuwait's handball team loses to Iran at the Asian Championship

Kuwait’s youth handball team lost to their Iranian counterparts 27-29 today in the opening match of their campaign in Group 2 of the preliminary round of the 19th Asian Youth Handball Championship, which serves as a qualifier for the 2027 World Youth Championship in North Macedonia. The tournament is being hosted in Chuzhou, China, from the 15th to the 27th of this month.

The results of the other first-round matches played today saw South Korea defeat Qatar 28-27, and the United Arab Emirates beat Japan 32-29 (Group 2), while Bahrain triumphed over Chinese Taipei 39-27, and Saudi Arabia overcame Oman 40-27 (Group 1).

As a result, the UAE team tops Group 2 on goal difference ahead of second-placed Iran and third-placed South Korea, with each team having two points. Qatar, Kuwait, and Japan remain in fourth, fifth, and sixth place respectively, without any points.

In Group 1, Saudi Arabia leads on goal difference ahead of Bahrain, with both teams having two points. Oman and Chinese Taipei remain without any points.

Six matches are scheduled for today in the second round of the championship, featuring South Korea against Iran, Bahrain versus Saudi Arabia, the UAE facing Qatar, China playing Chinese Taipei, Japan taking on India, and Oman meeting Hong Kong.
