Attempted Robbery at Lamine Yamal's Residence

The home of Spanish national team star Lamine Yamal was targeted in a robbery attempt early yesterday morning, hours after La Roja’s 2-0 victory over France in the 2026 World Cup semi-finals, according to Catalan police and media reported on Wednesday.

A spokesperson for the Catalan police force, Mossos d’Esquadra, told AFP that an “attempted armed robbery” occurred at a residence in Esplugues de Llobregat, a suburb of Barcelona, adding that he could not disclose the owner’s identity to protect their privacy. According to the Catalan newspaper La Vanguardia, the property belongs to Yamal.

The attempted robbery took place at dawn, hours after the match that saw La Roja eliminate Les Bleus, thanks to a penalty kick won by Yamal, which Mikel Oyarzabal successfully converted in the 22nd minute, before Pedro Porro added a second goal in the 58th minute.

La Vanguardia noted that the property was previously owned by former international defender Gerard Piqué and Colombian singer Shakira, when they lived together in Barcelona.

Catalan police also announced the opening of an investigation into another “violent robbery” targeting a home in the same city, located near Yamal’s residence.

Robberies targeting footballers’ homes, particularly in the capital Madrid, are common, with many players in recent years falling victim to such crimes, most notably French striker Karim Benzema, Brazilian forward Rodrygo, and Spanish defender Dani Carvajal.
