IMF: Prolonged Energy Supply Disruptions Will Impact the Global Economy

Christian Madsen, Director of the Strategy Department at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), stated that the factors that prevented global growth from suffering more severe repercussions from the war in the Middle East are likely to persist, but any prolonged disruption in energy supplies would clearly affect future forecasts. In response to a question about whether renewed hostilities between the United States and Iran could prompt the IMF to revise its 2026 global economic growth projection of 3%, he said it is very difficult to determine the trajectory the Fund’s estimates might take when updated in October.
