Britain summoned the highest-ranking Iranian diplomatic official in London on Tuesday regarding what the British government described as Iran’s role in directing proxy groups linked to Tehran to carry out attacks across Europe in recent months.
The British Foreign Office said in a statement issued on Tuesday that the Chargé d’Affaires was summoned to the ministry following allegations that the Quds Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps directed a group to carry out attacks across Europe between March and May.
It was not possible to reach the Iranian Embassy in London for comment outside official working hours. Iran, which is engaged in a conflict with the United States and Israel, has previously denied using proxies.
On Monday, Britain designated the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps and a group associated with it as a security threat under new powers aimed at preventing foreign states from using proxies to carry out activities such as surveillance and sabotage.
