Iranian Foreign Ministry: We currently have no obligations regarding the memorandum of understanding with the United States

The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced today that it is not adhering to the memorandum of understanding with the United States, considering that the agreement has entered a crisis phase due to repeated American violations, particularly Article 5 concerning navigation and the distortion of key provisions.

The Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmail Baghaei, affirmed the principle of “commitment for commitment,” rejecting the implementation of unilateral commitments and condemning Washington’s decision to lift the temporary suspension of oil sanctions. While Tehran seeks to formulate a maritime mechanism with the Sultanate of Oman, diplomatic efforts continue through mediators from Qatar, Oman, and Pakistan to contain the escalation and prevent the collapse of communication channels.
