Kuwait: Full solidarity with Saudi Arabia... Houthi undermines stability
Saudi Arabia received widespread Arab, Islamic, and international support in taking appropriate measures to protect its security and sovereignty, following an attack by Yemen’s Houthi Ansar Allah group, which is allied with Iran, on southern Saudi Arabia.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed Kuwait’s full solidarity with the Kingdom and its steadfast support for all measures taken to safeguard its sovereignty, preserve its security and stability, and protect its people and residents on its territory.
Earlier, Brigadier General Turki Al-Maliki, spokesperson for the Saudi-led coalition, announced late Monday night into Tuesday that air defenses had intercepted ballistic missiles fired by the “terrorist Houthi militia” toward the southern region.
In response, Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree announced that Abha International Airport on the Yemeni border had been targeted, marking the first Houthi strike against Saudi Arabia since the informal ceasefire took effect in March 2022.
These developments came hours after the Yemeni army, loyal to the legitimate government, targeted the runway at Sana’a airport to prevent an Iranian plane from landing, thereby violating the state’s sovereignty.
The United States officially affirmed its support for Saudi Arabia in the face of Houthi attacks, emphasizing that the strategic relationship between Washington and Riyadh has grown stronger.
While the Axios website reported that U.S. President Donald Trump expressed support for Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in any action the Kingdom takes against the Houthis, the U.S. State Department stated that the Houthi group remains designated as a foreign terrorist organization, reaffirming ongoing efforts to protect freedom of navigation in the Red Sea and to continue combating terrorist groups in Yemen.
For its part, the U.S. Embassy in Yemen said in a statement: “The United States stands shoulder to shoulder with our partners in the Gulf and the Yemeni government against the Iranian-backed Houthi terrorist threat.”
Secretary-General Jassem Al-Budaiwi stated that the continuation of Houthi attacks and violations of the ceasefire necessitate a firm international stance to put an end to these practices and ensure accountability for those responsible. He affirmed that Saudi security is an integral part of the security of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states, and that the Council stands united with the Kingdom.
Manama reaffirmed its full solidarity with the Kingdom and its support for all measures taken to preserve its sovereignty and security, reiterating its appreciation for Saudi efforts in leading the coalition supporting legitimacy in Yemen.
It renewed its full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and its complete support for all actions taken to safeguard its security, stability, sovereignty, and territory.
Oman condemned the missile threats to the southern region, affirming its solidarity with Saudi measures to protect its sovereignty, security, and stability.
Secretary-General of the Muslim World League Mohammed Al-Issa condemned the Houthi attack, describing the targeting of the Kingdom with ballistic missiles as a “terrorist attack” that violates religious values, international norms, and humanitarian laws. He affirmed the full support of the League, its councils, and its Islamic bodies for the Kingdom, endorsing all measures taken to protect its territory.
In Lebanon, President Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam viewed the targeting of Saudi Arabia as part of a systematic campaign to undermine the stability of the Arabian Gulf and keep the region in a state of tension, serving agendas that do not wish well for Arab peoples.
In a related development, the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council and the Defense Council once again called on the coalition supporting legitimacy to continue providing support and assistance to the armed forces, enabling them to fulfill their constitutional duties in safeguarding Yemen’s sovereignty, airspace, and ports. They stressed that under no circumstances should any foreign aircraft be allowed to enter or land, or any flights be conducted to any airport.
During a joint meeting to discuss Iranian violations, the two councils praised the armed forces’ effectiveness in thwarting attempts to impose facts on the ground by force, and placed full responsibility for this escalation and its repercussions on the Houthi militia and Iran.
The Houthi militia warned against the dangers of continuing its escalation policy, which jeopardizes citizens’ security and Yemen’s stability, affirming that the state will deal resolutely with any new violations and will take all necessary measures to protect its sovereignty, airspace, and ports.
They further emphasized that the army and security forces will strike with an iron fist anyone attempting to undermine state sovereignty or impose facts by force, and will prevent militias from exploiting them or dragging them into adventures that serve external agendas.
Speaking at the meeting, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad al-Alimi, stated that Iran will no longer have a foothold in Yemen.
