Intellectual Property and Counterfeit Goods Under the Scrutiny of the Ministry of Commerce

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry identified several warehouses operating without licenses from the relevant authorities, containing counterfeit products bearing global brand trademarks.

Faisal Al-Ansari, Director of the Commercial Control Department at the ministry, revealed that inspection teams, following prior monitoring and surveillance operations, seized two warehouses located in separate buildings, which held large quantities of counterfeit goods carrying global brand trademarks.

Al-Ansari explained that the inspection activities uncovered the violator’s display and sale of these goods to consumers, constituting a clear violation of legislation governing the protection of intellectual property rights and trademarks. This constitutes an infringement on the rights of trademark-owning companies and negatively impacts the state’s efforts to combat counterfeit goods and enhance Kuwait’s standing in international indicators and rankings related to intellectual property rights protection.

He reaffirmed the continuation of intensive regulatory campaigns across various markets, emphasizing zero tolerance for any practices that undermine consumer rights or violate intellectual property rights, and called on everyone to comply with regulations and laws to help consolidate a fair and secure business environment.
