Emir of Qatar Receives Condolence Delegations at Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa

The day after the grand funeral of the Founding Emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, held with a massive official and public turnout, Qatar began receiving condolences yesterday in the capital, Doha, from leaders, heads of state, and officials of numerous countries. Messages of condolence continued to pour in from world leaders, expressing their sympathies to Qatar’s Emir, government, and people, while recalling key moments of his reign and his impact at both the regional and international levels.

During the first of the three days designated by the Diwan Amiri (Emiri Diwan) to receive mourners, Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, received a number of leaders, heads of government, and members of the diplomatic corps accredited to the country, as well as members of the ruling family, ministers, senior officials, notables, citizens, and residents at Lusail Palace. He accepted their condolences on the passing of the Founding Emir, who died on Sunday at the age of 74.

After accepting condolences from the representative of the Kuwaiti Emir, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Crown Prince of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Sabah, and his accompanying delegation, Sheikh Tamim received Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. He also accepted condolences from the Bahraini Crown Prince, Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, who conveyed his sympathies on the death of the Founding Emir, accompanied by several senior officials of the Kingdom.

Sheikh Tamim accepted condolences from Jordan’s King Abdullah II, GCC Secretary-General Jassem Al-Budaiwi, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai’s Crown Prince, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s son, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and Oman’s Vice Minister of Defense for Affairs, Shihab bin Tariq. He also received condolences from crowds of sheikhs, ministers, notables, citizens, and accredited diplomatic members. The mourners expressed their sincere condolences and sympathies on the passing of the nation’s great loss, praying to God Almighty to grant him His vast mercy and admit him into His spacious Paradise.

Sheikh Tamim received condolence telegrams and phone calls from numerous heads of state, government leaders, and presidents, as messages of condolence continued to flow through the official social media accounts of leaders around the world.

Arab and international leaders, presidents, kings, and officials mourned the former Emir of Qatar via messages and phone calls, recalling his career filled with contributions and historic achievements that elevated Qatar to the ranks of advanced nations and served the causes of the Arab and Islamic ummah with wisdom and capability.

Qatar’s Emir received a call from Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who expressed his condolences on the death of the late Sheikh Hamad, praying to God Almighty to grant him His vast mercy and admit him into His spacious Paradise. Sheikh Tamim expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the Saudi Crown Prince for his condolences and sincere brotherly sympathies.

Moroccan King Mohammed VI sent a condolence and sympathy telegram to Qatar’s Emir on the death of the Founding Emir, Sheikh Hamad, highlighting the remarkable achievements of the late leader that contributed to modernizing Qatar and developing its economic and political capacities, thereby strengthening its regional and international standing and enabling it to actively support just Arab causes and enhance Arab and Islamic solidarity.

Mohammed VI affirmed that he holds the late leader in high esteem for the strong brotherly ties and supportive stances shared with Morocco, noting that he never hesitated to provide various forms of support to his second home, Morocco, whether in development projects or in just national causes.

The US Embassy in Doha offered its heartfelt condolences to Emir Tamim, mourning the loss of the Founding Emir, whose wise leadership contributed to building modern Qatar and turning the country into a key global partner for the United States.

In France, President Emmanuel Macron expressed his heartfelt condolences to Sheikh Tamim, his family, the government, and the Qatari people of all stripes on the passing of the Amir al-Dawla, affirming the deep ties between the Qatari and French peoples.

Macron stated, “He was determined to enhance Qatar’s standing in international forums, devising an effective diplomatic approach that cemented Qatar’s position as an active party recognized and respected in the field of international relations.”

In the United Kingdom, King Charles III and Queen Camilla conveyed their sincerest condolences to the Emir of Qatar, the Al Thani family, and the Qatari people on this great loss.

Buckingham Palace mourned the Amir al-Dawla, affirming that he “dedicated years of distinguished service to the State of Qatar and led his country through a transformative phase in its history.”

King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands said, “We remember with great respect Sheikh Hamad, who oversaw a comprehensive and successful modernization process for Qatar and strengthened its international standing as a valuable mediator in resolving tensions and conflicts.”

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz affirmed that Qatar had lost a statesman with a keen vision, and Germany had lost a great friend who contributed to building the country over many years.

While Djiboutian President Ismail Omar Guelleh conveyed his sincerest condolences, African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf stated that the Amir al-Dawla would remain in memory as “an exceptional leader and a statesman with a keen vision” who, through his wisdom and political acumen, succeeded in transforming Qatar into a prominent international actor.

Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said that the Amir al-Dawla dedicated his efforts to promoting peace and laying the foundations for dialogue and negotiation, considering that Qatar and Africa had lost, with his passing, one of the wise leaders who contributed to promoting peace and resolving conflicts, particularly in the Horn of Africa.

Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Ahmed el-Tayeb recalled the Amir al-Dawla’s contributions to serving the State of Qatar, his role in supporting the causes of the Arab and Islamic nations, alongside his backing of humanitarian and developmental initiatives, and his efforts to consolidate the foundations of Qatar’s modern renaissance and promote dialogue and rapprochement among peoples.
