Kroos: No real disagreements between Tuchel and Bellingham; the situation has been exaggerated

Former German international star Toni Kroos downplayed the significance of reports of a rift between England manager Thomas Tuchel and team star Jude Bellingham following England’s qualification for the 2026 World Cup quarter-finals.

The former Real Madrid star and 2014 World Cup winner clarified on Monday via TikTok, under the title “Kroos and Kroos: World Cup Under the Microscope,” alongside his brother Felix, “I think the situation has been blown out of proportion, and I don’t see any real differences in opinion.”

Tuchel publicly criticized his players’ performance and technical errors after a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Norway in the round of 16 in Miami, which prompted annoyance from Bellingham, Tuchel’s former Real Madrid teammate, when asked about those criticisms.

Kroos commented, “I have visited Miami several times during pre-season training camps, and it is one of the most unpleasant places, where the humidity is unbearable. After playing 120 minutes in such conditions, the last thing you want to hear is that you played poorly, especially after securing qualification. That is why the player seemed somewhat annoyed.”

At the same time, the Real Madrid legend expressed understanding of his compatriot Tuchel’s position, noting, “He is entirely right in his assessment; England did not perform well... Who else has the right to point out mistakes if not the manager? Especially since he had spent two minutes just before that praising the team’s excellent mentality.”

The 36-year-old retired star added that such matters only become problematic if the relationship between the coach and the players is unhealthy, “but I have seen some videos from the past weeks that prove the exact opposite, and I have heard statements from players who clearly praised Tuchel’s remarks.”
