Tuba Nour: Proud of Kuwait's humanity... My heart will never forget it

In an evening marked by warmth and gratitude, Turkish Ambassador to Kuwait, Topa Nur Sonmez, bid farewell to the diplomatic corps at a reception hosted by Indonesian Ambassador Lina Mariana, attended by several ambassadors and heads of diplomatic missions. Sonmez, who is preparing to leave Kuwait after four years of service, said she was departing with “unforgettable memories and friendships that will last a lifetime,” emphasizing that Kuwait had ceased to be merely a diplomatic posting for her, but had become a “second family” that would remain close to her heart.
She added that her posting in Kuwait was her first experience as an ambassador, providing her with an exceptional opportunity to build deep human connections. She noted that she had not expected, when she first visited Kuwait in 2015 as part of the official delegation of the Turkish President, that she would return years later to live one of the most beautiful phases of her professional and personal life.
The ambassador expressed her pride in the cooperation with Kuwait on numerous humanitarian initiatives, particularly during the response to Turkey’s earthquake. She pointed out that humanitarian cooperation extended to implementing projects to support refugees and those affected in Turkey and Syria, affirming her pride in being part of these humanitarian efforts. She added that from her new post in Ankara, she would continue to support Turkey-Kuwait relations and maintain the friendships she forged during her tenure.
For her part, the Indonesian ambassador addressed her Turkish counterpart with moving words, affirming that she was not only a successful diplomat but also a close friend to everyone. She said, “You will always remain a sister and a friend, and you will have a second home in Indonesia.” Sonmez concluded her speech with a heartfelt message to those present, saying, “I will never forget Kuwait, and I will never forget the people I met here... You have all become part of my family, and you will always remain in my heart.”
