Six Palestinians, including a child, martyred in Israeli attacks in Gaza
Health officials in the Gaza Strip said that at least six people, including a nine-year-old girl, were killed in an Israeli occupation airstrike and a shooting incident in the Strip on Sunday, as mediators held further talks to protect the US-brokered ceasefire.
Medics reported that Israeli occupation army fire targeted a camp in the eastern part of the Al-Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza, resulting in the death of nine-year-old Tala Abu Matr. The Israeli army stated it was unaware of the incident. Another airstrike hit a workshop in the Sabra neighborhood of Gaza City, killing four people. Witnesses said three Israeli missiles struck the location. The Israeli army said it attacked Hamas militants inside an arms production facility in Gaza City, which it considered a violation by Hamas of the ceasefire.
Medical sources later reported that an Israeli occupation airstrike targeted a camp in the Mawasi area of Khan Younis in the southern part of the Strip, causing at least one person to be killed and others injured, including children. The Israeli army had not yet commented on this incident.
The ceasefire reached in October ended large-scale combat operations, but failed to stop Israeli occupation attacks that have killed more than 1,000 Palestinians since it came into effect. During the same period, militants in Gaza killed four Israeli soldiers.
This new escalation comes as Hamas leaders visit Cairo for a new round of discussions on implementing the second phase of US President Donald Trump’s plan for Gaza.
Sources familiar with the talks said the discussions include the disarmament of Hamas and the withdrawal of the Israeli occupation army, noting that no progress has been made so far. Hamas says Israel’s violations of the ceasefire are a major obstacle to implementing the second phase of Trump’s plan.
Currently, about two million Palestinians live in the narrow coastal strip controlled by Hamas, most of them in temporary tents or damaged buildings due to the war. Displaced persons, many of whom have been forced to flee multiple times, make up the vast majority of this population.
