Syrian People's Council convenes for the first time

The new Syrian People’s Council convened for the first time today, 19 months after the opposition, led by President Ahmed al-Sharaa, ousted former President Bashar al-Assad.
In a speech delivered before the council, al-Sharaa urged lawmakers to make the council “a model of responsibility and efficiency,” describing it as “a platform for wisdom, a pillar of the state, and a voice for the people.”
