Citizen sentenced to one year in prison, vehicle confiscated, and fined 600 dinars

In the first ruling issued under the provisions of the new Traffic Law, the Criminal Court sentenced a Kuwaiti national to one year of imprisonment with hard labor and execution, a fine of 600 dinars, and the confiscation of his vehicle, after convicting him of charges of recklessness and endangering the lives of road users.

A security source told "Al-Jarida" that the Traffic Violations Investigation Department of the General Directorate of Traffic referred the case after the man was apprehended by traffic patrols while driving recklessly on public roads and endangering the lives of others. The violation was documented through audio and video recordings from traffic surveillance cameras and cameras mounted on traffic patrol vehicles.

The source added that the Traffic Violations Investigation Department, represented by the Traffic Prosecution Section, referred the offender to the Criminal Court along with the case file, supported by evidence in the form of video recordings, after he was apprehended and detained at the Traffic Directorate headquarters. He noted that the representative of the Prosecution Section requested during the trial that the penalties stipulated in the new Traffic Law be applied.

He clarified that the court accepted the prosecution’s request and sentenced the defendant to one year of imprisonment with hard labor and execution for committing a serious traffic violation, a fine of 600 dinars, and the confiscation of the vehicle used to commit the offense.
