Danny Olmo: Our goal is to win the World Cup

Spanish national team player Dani Olmo confirmed that his side is very close to winning the World Cup title, following their crucial last-minute victory over Belgium, while emphasizing the difficulty of the upcoming match against France.

Spain continued its dream of winning the World Cup for the second time in its history after qualifying for the tournament’s semi-finals, securing a thrilling 2-1 victory over Belgium on Friday evening in the quarter-finals of the competition currently being held in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

Spain, crowned champions in 2010 in South Africa, set up a fiery European clash in the semi-finals against France, which was the first team to reach the semi-finals of the current World Cup after defeating Morocco 2-0 on Thursday evening.

In press comments, Olmo said: “Our main objective was to reach the World Cup final. The match was difficult, but we controlled the game. We scored two goals and played an excellent match; we look forward to continuing on this path.”

When asked about Spain’s ambition to replicate its double of winning the European Championship and the World Cup, as it did when it won Euro 2008 before claiming its sole World Cup title in South Africa in 2010, Olmo stated: “It is an excellent motivation to repeat what we achieved 16 years ago.”

The Spanish star stressed: “We have a good group of skilled players, and we are aware that our goal is clear: to win this title. However, we now face a tough semi-final match against France.”

Concluding his remarks, Olmo clarified that the match against France is “difficult given their possession of highly capable players across all lines. They play very attractive football, but we believe in ourselves and will give our utmost effort against them.”
