German Football Association reaches agreement with Jürgen Klopp

The German Football Association (DFB) announced that it has reached an agreement on the key points of a potential contract with Jürgen Klopp to take over as head coach of the German national team, and that both sides are confident of reaching an agreement with Red Bull, where Klopp is currently employed.

Discussions were held yesterday in New York between former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp and DFB president Bernd Neuendorf. Hans-Joachim Watzke, the DFB vice president, who has a close relationship with Klopp dating back to their time together at Borussia Dortmund, also attended the meeting.

Klopp is currently in the United States, where he is working as a television analyst during the World Cup, but he has already expressed interest in replacing Julian Nagelsmann, who resigned from his post following Germany’s exit in the Round of 32 after a loss to Paraguay.

A statement from the DFB regarding the meeting said: “During this constructive meeting, an agreement was reached on the key points of a potential contract.”

It added: “Negotiations will continue next week. Both parties are confident that a final agreement can be reached, contingent on a settlement with Klopp’s current employer, Red Bull.”
