Wimbledon 2026: Sinner Takes Revenge on Djokovic and Advances to the Final Against Zverev

After defeating Djokovic in five consecutive meetings, Sinner fell to the Serbian in the Australian Open semifinals at the start of the year, relinquishing the titles he had won in 2024 and 2025. However, he succeeded on Friday in restoring his reputation and reaching his seventh major final, hoping to claim his fifth title.

The Italian will face the third-seeded German Alexander Zverev in the title match, who earlier defeated Britain’s Arthur Fery with a score of 7-6 (7-0), 6-2, and 6-4.

This result once again delayed the 39-year-old Serbian’s pursuit of the all-time record for the most major titles, which he currently shares with Australian Margaret Court (24 each).

After his seventh loss against five victories over Sinner, Djokovic failed to continue his dream of equalling the record held by Swiss legend Roger Federer by winning his eighth Wimbledon singles title, and to reach his eleventh final at the English tournament and his thirty-ninth major final overall (he trails Federer’s record by seven).

From the outset, it appeared the Serbian was a favorite to suffer his fifteenth Wimbledon semifinal loss, setting a new record, and his fifty-fifth major semifinal defeat, after losing his serve in the ninth game of the first set, where Sinner had led 5-4 before holding his own serve to take the set.

The Italian repeated the feat in the second set, breaking in the seventh game, leading 4-3 and 5-3 before closing out the set 6-4.

Sinner struck early in the third set, breaking his opponent’s serve from the first game, which had been marathon-like, on his way to a 2-0 and then 3-1 lead, after being very close to breaking again in the third game as well.

The Italian continued his dominance and finished the eighth game on his own serve without losing a single point, before closing out the set 6-4 on his serve and winning the match, in which he was superior in all statistical categories, notably converting three of his thirteen break opportunities, compared to his Serbian opponent’s single unconverted chance.

He also excelled in powerful serves (16 to 8) and committed fewer unforced errors (15 to 23), ending the match in two hours and twenty minutes.
