Sadio Mane Retires from International Football: I Gave My Best... and Fought Hard for Senegal

Sadio Mane, the star of the Senegal national football team, announced on Friday his retirement from international football following his country’s elimination in the Round of 32 at the World Cup.

Mane said, “I sacrificed everything for this flag. I always gave my best and fought with all my strength for our homeland.”

Mane won the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal and achieved numerous club titles throughout his career, most notably the UEFA Champions League in 2019 while playing for Liverpool, before spending the 2022/2023 season with Bayern Munich. He currently plays for Saudi club Al-Nassr under a contract that runs until 2027.

In his message, Mane stated that he intends to continue serving football in Senegal, whether “as part of a technical staff, on the bench as a coach, or through work within administrative bodies.”
