Washington: Talks with Tehran continue despite attacks

The U.S. administration said on Thursday that Washington and Tehran are continuing to work on finding a diplomatic solution to their dispute, despite renewed attacks in the region.

A U.S. government official told the German news agency DPA: “The United States remains committed to finding a solution, and technical talks are ongoing.” At the same time, he said that the behavior of Iran’s leadership constitutes an unacceptable violation of the framework agreement.

In recent days, the U.S. military launched several waves of attacks against targets in Iran. The U.S. government justified these actions by pointing to attacks on commercial ships, which the United States attributes to Tehran.

As a result, U.S. allies in the Gulf, including Kuwait and Bahrain, reported coming under hostile fire.

U.S. President Donald Trump has repeatedly threatened Iran in recent weeks and openly questioned the value of further talks during the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit in Turkey, which concluded last Wednesday.
