The Ministry of Education announced today, Thursday, that it has approved a decision to limit students in the middle and secondary stages, as well as the fourth and fifth grades of the primary stage, to a single short test during the current academic period.
In a press statement, the Ministry explained that the decision stipulates allowing only one short test per subject for the covered educational groups. It clarified that the highest score will be counted for students who took two short tests in any subject, a measure designed to safeguard students’ interests and ensure fairness in assessing their academic performance.
The Ministry noted that this arrangement does not apply to primary school students in grades one through three, who will continue to follow the Comprehensive Education Regulations, which mandate two short tests per subject, each worth five marks.
The Ministry emphasized its commitment to adhering to the provisions of the Comprehensive Education Regulations and standardizing assessment procedures across all educational stages and schools. This aims to ensure clarity in grading mechanisms, guarantee equal opportunities for learners, and account for individual differences and varying academic achievement levels.
It further stated that this test organization is part of its ongoing efforts to develop educational and assessment practices, achieving a balance between measuring students’ academic achievement and considering their academic circumstances. This contributes to providing an encouraging learning environment that supports learning and enhances the outcomes of the educational process.
