One hundred and four years after one of the world’s most famous archaeological discoveries, British archaeologist Howard Carter and his excavation financier, Lord Carnarvon, are back in the spotlight—but this time through an interactive experience at a Japanese museum.

In the city of Yokohama, the “Tutankhamun Museum” is hosting special events from November 4 to 8 to commemorate the anniversary of the discovery of the stairs leading to the Egyptian pharaoh’s tomb in the Valley of the Kings on November 4, 1922.

According to the museum’s announcement, actors portraying Carter and Carnarvon will roam the exhibition halls at undisclosed times. Visitors are invited to find them and uncover a secret phrase related to the discovery in order to receive a commemorative golden badge.

The experience goes beyond simply searching for the two figures; the museum also offers visitors a simulated archaeological excavation game, allowing them to choose three digging sites from among 18 locations within a sandy area.

The program also includes workshops on crafting boxes decorated with ancient Egyptian symbols, including Horus, as well as scratch-art activities, magic and balance performances, and live statue displays.

Through these events, the museum aims to transform the anniversary of a famous archaeological discovery into an educational and entertaining experience for both children and adults.
